Unger Brothers was a fabulous manufacturer of art nouveau silver that operated at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century. They manufactured thousands of items of silverware, gift items and jewelry. Most of what they designed and created was reflective of the art nouveau period including incredible depictions of ladies with flowing hair, ornate floral themes and Native American warriors.

The values depend greatly on the design aesthetic, ornateness, intricacy and the rarity of the item.

Unger Brothers Sterling Silver Value Guide:

1. Flatware - The more ornate and decorated with art nouveau designs of ladies, the more valuable the flatware will be. Most flatware will be worth triple its melt silver value or possibly more. If a very plain pattern, it might only be worth melt + 35%. If it is a very unusual piece with a super ornate face or figural depiction, the silver flatware item might be worth 400%-600% of its intrinsic silver value. Better patterns are: Dawn, Cupid's Sunbeam, Love's Dream, La Fantasie, He Loves Me, Secret of the Flowers, Les Circes, Cupid's Nosegay and The Wave.

2. Brooches - Most Unger Brothers Brooches are worth between 500-1000% of their scrap silver value. So in example, if a brooch has $30 of silver value, it will likely be worth between $150.00 to $300.00. There are some brooches that can be worth even more than this.

3. Match Safes - Most Unger Brothers match safes are worth between 500-1500% of their scrap silver value. So in example, if a match safe has $30 of silver value, it will likely be worth between $150.00 to $450.00. There are even a few that fetch more than this, but they'd have to be something seldom seen like a Native American theme or something that is highly 3 dimensional and heavier.

4. Hollowware and Tea and Coffee Services - Bowls, Coffee and Tea Services tend to only be worth around double their melt value. These pieces in general don't have the art nouveau themes that are more abundant on the smaller pieces.

5. Jewelry Items - Most Unger Brothers jewelry items are worth between 500-1000% of their scrap silver value.    So in example, if a jewelry item has $30 of silver value, it will likely be worth between $150.00 to $300.00. There are some jewelry pieces that can be worth even more than this.
