Antique Silver at The Brooklyn Museum in New York
I visited The Brooklyn Museum in New York in September of 2024 to go on my usual hunt to find awesome pieces of antique and rare sterling silver pieces. Unfortunately, I left somewhat disappointed. The museum had very little silver on display and what they did have was somewhat bland and boring. For a museum that boasts about its 560,000 square feet and being the second largest art museum in New York, it was rather amiss in its accounting of featuring silver in its exhibits.
It's a fine museum otherwise, and I am going to include a few photos here of some its other art medium and historical collections.
My suggestions if any of their curators or directors ever read this is to feature an entire room about Brooklyn's own George W. Shiebler who was a Brooklynite and world famous celebrity silversmith. His company is revered by today's collectors as a genius silver-smithery and design firm any many believe Shiebler to be superior or at least on par with Tiffany & Co. The Brooklyn Museum would be the perfect and most suitable location for a permanent showcase on this fabulous company. I will be happy be a consultant and help set it up.
Enjoy my photos of the Brooklyn Museum:
