We visited the Park City Museum on Main Street in downtown Park City, Utah. It had a mix of the history of Park City and also of skiing. However, its main emphasis was on the history of silver mining in particularly in the Park City Bonanza Flats area of Utah. In the latter half of the 19th century silver was discovered here and as a result the town of Park City was built. After mining died out, skiing and tourism was the next great sustaining industry.
We learned about The Silver King Mine. We got to see several great things that are associated with mining like the mining cars, dynamite, rough rocks containing silver ore, and mining tools. My favorite display was a two story scale model of a mine shaft that showed how all the mine tunnels connected into the large silver veins and how they went below the ground as deep as 1,000' below.
The museum is well worth visiting, especially if you are a lover of all things silver as we are.
