Skogar Museum in Skogar, Iceland

Updated: Oct 28

In the year 2018, we visited Iceland. Finding silverware was the last thing on our minds taking into consideration the vast natural beauty that abounds in Iceland with its glaciers, waterfalls and lava scarred landscapes. However, we did happen upon a small museum display of silverware pieces located in the Skogar Museum in their folk arts section. The pieces were old and some from as early as 1700. However, there was nothing there that was all too magnificent in aesthetic beauty. Most of it was very continental and European influenced. The pieces and designs were rather plain and lacked decoration. I suppose if you live on an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, you should just be happy to have any fine silver accessories to began with, let alone having something that looks like it is fit for royalty. If you visit Iceland, definitely pay a visit to this fine museum. My 8 year old son Derek really enjoyed looking at all its offerings including the old vehicles, tools, dwelling and furniture.
