The Hearst Castle at San Simeon in California USA

Updated: Oct 29

We visited the magnificent Heart Castle built by William Randolph Heart and Architect Julia Morgan located in San Simeon, California USA. As a silver expert, I was of course looking for beautiful pieces of silver and there were actually some there. Most of the pieces were of Italian, Spanish, Mexican and Portuguese origins and were larger in scale.

However, I was absolutely overwhelmed and focused more on all of the other magnificent art and architectural marvels that abounded on the grounds and in every room. The sculptures, tapestries and furnishings were just incredible. This has got to be one of the finest art museums on the planet, especially since it shows the objects displayed in an actual decorative arts setting and not just a sterile museum setting. The castle took 28 years to design and build and it is perfectly situated atop William's "Enchanting Hill" towering above the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. The views are beyond anything imaginable since there is no develop zone that goes for miles and miles. You are seeing the castle as would have been seen originally in the early 20th century. This is definitely worth a trip to see. Make sure to book in advance as you are only allowed to see it on the several various tours that are given during the day.
